1. Travel arrangements
Train from Prestwick airport to Ardrossen takes about 50 minutes
and includes a change at Kilwinning. Cost £1.45 single if
you show your Ryanair confirmation slip.
Ferry costs £6.40 for 5 day foot passenger return. (Car £39
5 day return + £6.40 for each passenger)
Bus from Brodick to Lochranza meets each ferry. Costs £1.90
single.
Shared taxi available at ferry terminal.

2. Hostel arrangements
All bedding is provided (sleeping bags not needed). Hostel is
very cosy, specially the bedrooms – there are 12, so we can
spread out. Bunk beds. Bring towels.
No smoking in hostel
Outdoor footwear off at entrance (bring indoor shoes or slippers)
Hostel is kept beautifully clean.
Irngard and Tony are the hostel wardens and will help smooth our
stay.

3. Cooking arrangements
Self catering. Spacious kitchens with plenty of pots and pans
(aluminium). 2 cookers with ovens + 3 hobs with 4 burners each.
All gas.
There will be too many of us to organise communal meals except for
the feast on Saturday. We suggest you plan to cook in small groups
where possible and also make use of the two nearby pubs for meals.
There is a local shop and we will order basics such as potatoes,
rice, onions, oatmeal, flour, olive oil etc. and daily milk and
bread. We’ll ask you for a small contribution towards same
and do tell us if you have any special requests. No caffetiers provided
so bring your own if needed.
There are well stocked supermarkets in Brodick which is 14 miles
away
I suggest we have a potluck feast on the Saturday.
All providing some culinary delight…… any special ingredients
for this could be ordered ahead.
4. Walking
Walks will not be ‘guided’ as such but local maps
available for short and longer walks. Regular buses to walk start
points.

Hat / gloves / scarf
Luxuries Please bring one to this desert island for yourself or
to share.
